Regular dental cleanings and exams play a big role in helping your child keep their teeth and gums clean and healthy. Not only that, visiting the dentist routinely from a young age can help kids become used to visiting dental offices, which can help them feel more comfortable in the dental chair and more likely to take care of their smiles well into adulthood. If you need to schedule your child’s next teeth cleaning and pediatric dental checkup with our team, please give our office a call or send us a message so we can assist!
How long do teeth cleanings take?
Our team is happy to work at whatever pace your child is comfortable with, and we like to take the time to explain our procedures and our dental technology to teach kids about dentistry as well. Pediatric dental cleanings and exams typically take anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour on average. If your child is receiving a fluoride treatment, dental sealants, or we discover an issue and offer to treat it right away, that can make your child’s appointment longer.
How can I help my child remove plaque from their teeth?
Brushing, flossing, and rinsing with mouthwash is the best way for kids and adults to remove plaque from their teeth at home. However, plaque tends to build up in certain hard-to-reach areas over time, like near the gum line and in between teeth, which is why it’s important to visit the dentist regularly so one of our experienced hygienists can expertly remove the built-up plaque and tartar. Plaque build-up is totally natural, but it’s important to clean the teeth thoroughly and regularly to avoid tooth decay and gum disease.
Are pediatric dental checkups covered by insurance?
If your child is covered under your dental insurance plan, their biannual teeth cleanings and exams should be covered. Some providers also cover the cost of sealants, fluoride treatments, and other preventive services. If your child does not have dental insurance, Cibolo Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics also accepts Medicaid and payment plans through CareCredit®, which can divide the cost of dental treatments into manageable monthly payments.
